Question number 1: Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?

G’day, my name is Steve Marks and I am a DJ and Producer born in Sydney, Australia. I have produced music since 2008, remixing artists like Maroon 5, Ed Sheeran and Britney Spears. I have DJ’d in over 10 countries so far and hope that 2021 brings a few more!

Question number 2: As an EDM producer, what’s the hardest thing about producing such music?

Keeping motivated. There are so many distractions around, especially my smartphone, and you can lose hours just aimlessly scrolling through social media if your phone is close by, so I often put my phone on silent, and in another room so I can truly focus.

Question number 3: You’re working as an DJ, can you tell us how did the ongoing pandemic affect your work?

The pandemic has killed all my live shows, so, like many people, I had to adapt my lifestyle to find new ways to get my music heard. In 2020 i began a Youtube channel hosting weekly demo drops and uploading tutorial videos to keep busy, and reach a global audience from just my laptop.

Question number 4: Can you name some of your idols?

My idol growing up was Travis Barker – the drummer of Blink 182. I grew up as a punk-rock drummer for several bands around Sydney, and i would watch hours of his videos online to copy what he would do, and develop my drumming skills. I still use his skills in my DJ sets today, as I always travel with my electronic drum machine to create a truly live performance for the clubs and festivals I am booked for.

Question number 5: If someone wants to get into the music industry, what would be the best advice that you could give to him?

Support. Support. Support. You cannot make it anywhere without supporting other artists. All of the top DJ’s are the nicest guys, that is not an act, that is years of networking to build strong relationships and friends that results in more bookings and more fans.

Question number 6: You’ve been streaming and helping other producers out through your youtube channel. Can you please tell us how did this idea came to your mind?

I have been a fan of demo-drop live streams for many years. I often noticed when a new producer sent in their music, they were met with negative comments from viewers and often negative feedback from the host. My live streams are supportive and encouraging regardless of the quality of music that is submitted. There are positives to every situation we are faced with.

Question number 7: Are you planning on releasing new music in the near future?

Yes, like many producers 2021 will be huge. I have a new single called „Parallel Universe“ due for release Jan 15 with an Australian vocalist, and have 3 other tracks in their final stages of production which are all collaborations with people i have met through my Youtube live streams.

Question number 8: What’s your life motto?

„Success is the best form of revenge.“
